workplace health & safety and environmental management
directives, policy and procedures that apply to our client’s
workplace. Contractors must attend induction, read health and safety
handbooks, instructions etc that may form a prerequisite of your
engagement. A
contractor’s independent status does not preclude them from
following on-site safety regimes at our client’s premises.
Contractors engaged in roles where they are responsible for
the welfare of others, are reminded that they are required to
maintain diligence and a responsible approach to Environmental and
Safety issues in so far as the scope of their role allows.
Please
supply details of any safety induction/certification, operator’s
tickets, licenses and/or technical qualifications, as our client may
specify these as a prerequisite of the project brief and they must
then be validated.
Our
Consultants will advise you of all special requirements specified by
the client that apply to your engagement ie: wearing of special
protective clothing, medical assessments etc.
Once issued, safety apparel must be used.
Access on construction sites is strictly on condition of your
compliance to site access regulations ie: safety gear, induction,
sign in and identification procedures etc.
We
require that you advise us immediately where:
-
the
client fails to provide timely site induction
-
you
may have a medical condition that could affect your ability to
provide specified services to our client
-
you
require special arrangements be put in
place to enable you to safely carry out your project
-
an
incident or accident that occurs on
site in which you are involved, no matter how minor. You must document the event to the best of your recollection,
while it is fresh in your mind.
We will arrange for our Health, Safety &
Environmental Officer to can handle the investigation to ensure
all appropriate management steps are taken including Workcover
responsibilities
All
PAYG contractors are covered by the AZ-Tech Workcare policy (within
Queensland). If you are
a Self Employed Independent Contractor, you are precluded from this
cover under Queensland legislation.
If you cannot provide us with a current policy number for a
private sickness and accident policy, we can refer you to an
insurance provider. You
may not be permitted to commence your services until a policy is in
place, as non conformance places all parties at an unreasonable
risk.
Environmental:
AZ-Tech is an organisation that fosters responsible
environmental management partnerships with our clients and the
contractors engaged to represent our interests on client sites.
Although we are not in a position to personally direct and
supervise your on-site activities with our clients, we do require
that you adopt the policy and procedure of that client organisation.
This entails reporting all incidents, honouring all legal
obligations and notifying us immediately if you are placed in a
position where you find yourself being placed at unreasonable risk
or required to conduct activities that contravene sound
environmental practice.

Mutual Recognition for Safety
Inductions in the Construction Industry
From 1 January 2007, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria will
recognise construction induction cards issued in each other’s
jurisdictions.
These new measures that will simplify licensing requirements for
construction workers working interstate. The honourable John
Mickel, Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial
Relations, announced on 18th December, 2006:
“Mutual recognition allows certified or qualified workers to
practice across state borders, secure in the knowledge that they are
conforming to the local rules and regulations. Mutual
recognition will not mean a decline in safety standards.
Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria have record low levels of
workplace injuries and fatalities. We are streamlining our systems
but maintaining our high safety standards. "
